A kundiman is a Filipino love song traditionally sung by a man wooing the woman of his dreams. Sometimes, the young man will be accompanied by friends as he serenades (harana) the woman in the evening. With the familiar strains of the guitar, the suitor pours out his emotions through a song, usually one which speaks of loneliness or even lack of self-worth.
SM Marikina WiFi Testing

Some Pinoy bloggers trooped to SM Marikina yesterday afternoon (Feb. 28, 2009) to test the free WiFi service. It looks like you’ll get the strongest signal somewhere near the third floor near the Food Court (4 out of 5 bars, based on an Acer Aspire One). On the second floor, near The French Baker, the signal is 3 out of 5 bars.
Songwriting 102
Here’s the second in a series of fortuitous songwriting tips and lessons courtesy of Gary Granada and that GMA Kapuso issue. In this episode, which was distributed in the form of an MP3 file attached to an email, Gary Granada speaks about the significance of a single word.
For some, a word is just a word. Yet when you set it to music, your choice of lyrics can affect the musicality of the piece.
Gary Granada and GMA Kapuso
Chanced upon Jon Limjap’s Gary Granada airs complaint vs. GMA Kapuso, the New Media way (after reading Jon’s Twitter message), and listened to the 14:28 audiocast.
Learned a few things about composing songs, musical theory, and the basic elements of musical composition.
New Media Diarist Blogger
Is there really a difference between a diarist blogger and a new media blogger? And if there actually is, is that distinction significant enough particularly when it comes to credibility, truth, or plain good manners online?
Tayong Dalawa
People are glued nightly to ABS-CBN’s teleserye, Tayong Dalawa (The Two of Us).
The first time I heard that song was many years ago, and it was sung by Rey Valera (the vid below probably contains scenes from the I Love New York [or is it I Luv New York?] soap starring Jennylyn Mercado and Mark Herras, circa 2006):
Children’s Party at Acropolis
Attended a children’s party yesterday at the Acropolis Clubhouse. Got to see Vincent and Chichi Buita. Also saw Chin Lee. Congrats to Philip and Malot Coronel for a successful birthday party (fantastic balloons! truly a labor of love). The kids enjoyed watching the parade of pets.
Thank you also to the party host (didn’t catch his name), who assured the kids that there will be no dancing and singing. Nor was there the ever-popular “Bring Me…” game.
Instead, he had new games such as “Guess a Number from 1 to 30” for the kids, and “Hula hoop, skip rope, jellyace race” for the yayas. The Name-That-Disney-Tune was a blast (I hope the glasses and tables didn’t break from all that banging), and the Back-to-the-80s brought back fond memories… Didn’t realize there were so many parents who danced many a high school night away 25 years ago. They were able to name-that-tune in as quickly as half a second. 😀
(DISCLOSURE: Edited a lot of grammatical mistakes.)
