A Filipino blogger has recently gone problogging on a full-time basis. Yes, he left his day job last February 15. And yes, he is Marhgil Macuha.
In Embracing The Dot Com Lifestyle, Marhgil shares how he gave up 25% of his monthly income so that he won’t have to wake up early and suffer through the traffic of EDSA.
And it looks like he’s also inspired by the “dot com lifestyle” of John Chow.
We wish you all the best, Marhgil. And we look forward to reading about your experiences. Here are some topics I hope you tackle in future blog posts:
1. How do you deal with loneliness / isolation?
2. How many hours straight can you sanely spend in front of the computer daily?
3. What will be your source of content (i.e., will you go out more often now)?
While I do like to write, I also like to move around and interact with different people. You know, pick their brains and gain new insights.
It gets quite interesting when you mingle with the non-internet crowd, or with folks who mainly use the web for email and YouTube.
One idea I got from conversations with un-wired friends is this:
Blog once, earn many times.
Yes, some people don’t want to keep on blogging forever. Some internet marketers simply want to build a 10-page site and then not have to update it ever again.
And still have it earning money online month after month.
Is that impossible? Not really. If there are long-term bloggers, there are also 10-post bloggers.
Once these mini-site enthusiasts build enough sites, they get as far away from the internet as possible and then simply deposit their online earnings.
Some are lucky enough to have stumbled upon profitable niches (yes, they earn mostly from online advertising revenues). Others keep at it.
Which isn’t such a bad thing, actually. There are bloggers who blog for the sheer joy of it, and the monthly dollar checks are simply an added bonus.
Anyway, we wish Marhgil all the best. May you earn a lot, have fun in the process, and have the time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. 🙂
