Do you want to know how to make money online? There are many ways to do this, but there is one method that guarantees your success. Do you know what that one thing is? It is simply…
Focus.
Yes, that is absolutely correct. If you want to earn an online income, you will need to focus not only your attention, but also your efforts and your goals.
For example, are you going to earn advertising revenues or commissions from the sale of referred products? Are you going for the quick sale online, or are you trying to build an audience which will later lead to potential business engagements?
Oftentimes, aspiring bloggers and probloggers get distracted easily by this or that tactic du jour. Should we use widgets? What about this ad network? Or that network? Or why don’t we promote this ebook, or that membership site? I know, let’s read this other ebook. No, let’s enroll in this other webinar.
Ah yes, let’s go for article marketing. Wait… let’s optimize our site for AdSense. Or Kontera. Or better yet, let’s go for CPA or referral income from Commissions Junction. Naa… let’s work with Clickbank, or Paydotcom. Oh, I know! Let’s do niche blogging! π
And the list goes on… And on…
What is it that you want? There are many methods, but please choose one.
Once you’ve made your choice, focus your energies on that one tactic or approach, and see if it resonates with you. Give it about 3 weeks.
Assess your performance, both in terms of financial rewards and your overall sense of satisfaction. If you are happy doing what you were doing, and you see that your financial objectdives are met, then continue doing what you’ve been doing for the past 3 weeks.
Resist the urge to jump on something new.
Do you want to be a well-known social blogger with hordes of online fans? Or would you rather shun social traffic and instead focus on being an internet marketer whose unswerving goal is to make money online?
If it is the latter, then please take the time to browse through the numerous helpful articles of Grizzly. If it is the former, then blog with the thought of increasing your regular readership and RSS feed subscribers. Just remember, however, to keep your expectations realistic.
Aiming for online income? Want to make money fast? Be an internet marketer.
Patiently waiting for offline income? Be a social blogger. Make that, a patient social blogger.
Want to mix them both? Be a social problogger? Yes, that can be done. It has been done, actually. And it still is being done. Afterall, if Tony Stark can master technology and build Iron Man while working inside a cave, then other engineers can duplicate his feat, right? π
This reminds me of that exchange in Iron Man (Wikiquote.org):
Engineer: Mr. Stane. Sir, we’ve explored what you’ve asked of us and it seems as though there’s a little hiccup. Actually, um…
Obadiah Stane: A hiccup?
Engineer: Yes, see to power the suit… sir, the technology doesn’t actually exist. So it…
Obadiah Stane: Wait, wait, the technology? Here is the technology! I’ve asked you to simply make it smaller.
Engineer: Sir, the technology doesn’t exist. Honestly, it’s impossible–
Obadiah Stane: [yelling] TONY STARK WAS ABLE TO BUILD THIS IN A CAVE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!
Engineer: I’m sorry. I’m not Tony Stark.
What’s the point of all this? Honestly assess your strengths.
Are you a Darren Rowse when it comes to social problogging? Do you like writing a lot and staying connected to the internet through your blogs, Twitter, and other forms of social media?
Are you a Grizzly Brears when it comes to focusing on AdSense and internet marketing? Do you like writing long, useful articles? Are you willing to build over a hundred websites, and experience $4,000 monthly ad revenues from about 7 of those 100 sites? Are you willing to build 93 sites that turn out to be non-earners?
Find out what it is that you want, and what it is that you’re willing to do. Then see if your online revenue model matches your internet marketer or social blogger approach.
Focus. Alignment. Consistency.
Make these work and you’ll be making money online. You’ll see. π
