How much is the solar-powered Nokero LED light bulb? Based the Nokero online store, it’s $15. Now let’s take a closer look…
Here’s a June 18, 2010 interview on CNN:
Here’s a quick summary:
1. Online retail price of Nokero lightbulb is $15 (P615).
2. NGO or Partner price is $6 (P246) and may even go down to $5 (P205).
3. A family that relies on kerosene for lighting needs will break-even with a Nokero bulb in 5 months.
4. The rechargeable battery (replacement cost: $2) lasts 300 to 500 charging cycles (or about one year if you charge it everyday).
5. The Nokero bulb itself lasts around 5 years (but to be conservative, let’s assume 3 years).
Therefore, assuming Intellisolar is a partner or official distributor of Nokero solar bulbs in the Philippines, and assuming further it was able to get the bulbs for P246.00, then it has P754.00 per bulb in Gross Profit.
We read that Direct Referrors earn P100.00 per Direct Referral or Direct Customer, so that estimated P754 goes down to P654.00
We’re trying to figure out how an Intellisolar distributor (or Solar Advocate) can earn P3,000 in one month, given the P654.00 operating profit per bulb of Intellisolar. Will update this blog post after we speak with Mr Noly.
