Online marketing enthusiasts have been recently bombarded once again with “The Web Is Dying!” messages, and some are afraid that they will have a harder time making money online. Before you scamper away and hide under a rock, read this…
The web is changing. It is not dying.
This means that you don’t necessarily have to change what you have already published. Instead, you need to expand and consider producing other forms or different formats.
For example, with the exploding smartphone market, you will need to reach mobile internet users on their terms. That will involve establishing your presence in Facebook, Twitter, and other popular social media networks, or creating mobile versions of your websites or blogs.
There are still people using browsers.
And that’s why you will need to maintain your existing sites online. Unless you want to simply turn your back on that market, of course. (Which I don’t recommend.)
So the next time you watch online videos that spout “The Web Is Dying!”, simply smile and know that your strategy will be one of expanding your online publishing efforts.
Come to think of it, isn’t it better to say: “The Web Is Expanding!”
People are using the web in different ways. The smartphone users with 24×7 mobile internet access use it basically to keep in constant touch with their FB friends. How do you want to market to them?
Or… can you really market to Facebook users? Are people in it only for the “social” experience? Or will there be a shift to more online shopping via FB?
Anyway, it’s great to see that we’re in for even more exciting times ahead. And remember, the web isn’t dying and neither is the browser.
